My mom has dementia and I’m the only sibling who still lives close by – my brothers and sisters are scattered all over the country. Ever since my mom’s dementia became more critical I find myself spending hours trying to keep everyone else up to date. Since I’ve found CareRunner I’m able to easily post updates on Mom’s Community Journal and let my family post back with questions or comments. The doctor’s office just called and needed to change mom’s appointment. I won’t be in town that day and needed to know whether my sister could take her at the revised time. With the messaging feature I was revising the appointment in the Calendar and getting a confirmation back from my sister at the same time.

I’ve found the messaging feature really helpful for keeping my sister in the loop on some of the more personal issues about Dad that wouldn’t be appropriate sharing with the whole group.
Being able to manage people in our community has helped me consolidate all the important contact information into one place, which has been easily accessible to my siblings when they need it as well.
I'm really impressed that the people section allows me to give different levels of access for the friends and family I invite into Dad's Community. That way old friends and neighbors can be kept up to date on how he is doing in the journal while my brothers and I can manage more sensitive medical information in his health record.
Although Grandma wasn't able to travel to my niece's wedding, she sure enjoyed viewing all the photos that my sister had posted in her photo gallery. She was especially touched by the photo of the bride and groom blowing her a kiss.
My sister sometimes feels badly that she can't help as much with Mom's care since she lives so far away. But since she has always been the "family photographer" she contributes so much by posting albums of days gone by in the photo gallery. Her recent album of family 4th of July picnics during the 60's and 70's had mom laughing out loud and commenting on how handsome dad looked in his crewcut and plaid bermuda shorts.

This area is accessible to all members, but messages are sent to and viewable by designated recipients only.
